Wonder

An Artist - Staff - Patient exchange.

Artist in Residence programme as part of Age an Opportunity The Care Hubs of Arts & Creative Excellence initiative with St John’s Community Hospital, Sligo and Killybegs Community Hospital.

Using an inter-media approach to collaboration and performance making Maud and Bernie worked remotely (via post, phonecall, video workshops, telepathically) during pandemic restrictions to connect with staff and residents to develop and create workshop conditions remotely, connecting through movement, text and sound. One on one engagements and group moments were made possible by the dedicated facilitation of staff in both hospitals.

In response to conversations and material developed with residents online, Maud and Bernie developed WONDERbox, a performance in a box concept whereby instructions for a performance were sent with costumes, headphones, curated sound files (developed with community participants in Dublin) were posted and staff on site created the conditions for a performance on site.

The residency culminated in a joyous in person series of workshops in both locations.
